Treatments and Procedures
Snoring & OSA
Loud snoring can signal obstructive sleep apnoea, a condition that needs attention. Untreated apnoea can cause daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, high blood pressure and eventually heart failure. Patients are typically advised to lose weight, and in some cases the airway is surgically improved.
Cochlear Implants
Cochlear implants are for people with significant hearing loss who do not benefit enough from hearing aids. They do not restore normal hearing, so sound initially seems mechanical until the brain adapts over time. Implants help with lip-reading, perceiving environmental sounds and monitoring one’s own voice. The ENT outpatient clinic works with otology, audiology, speech pathology and psychology teams to run the programme.
Audiology
The department offers a broad range of hearing and balance diagnostics and restorative services. Services are tailored for newborns, children, adults and older patients.
- Hearing tests
- New-borns and infants hearing screening
- Hearing aid fitting
- Assistive listening devices
- Cochlear implant services
Chronic Nasal and Sinus Disorder
Accurate diagnosis is central to treating chronic nasal and sinus conditions. Treatment may combine medication with surgery, guided by a multidisciplinary team in allergy, radiology, neurology and pulmonology.
- Nasal stuffiness
- Recurrent infection
- Loss of smell
- Chronic sinusitis
- Nasal polyps
